Hotel Chevalier

As Adam noted, Wes Anderson’s Hotel Chevalier is up at iTunes. I just finished my first screening. (Yay AppleTV!) It is tantalizingly short (as shorts are wont to be). It’s packed with Anderson’s trademark quirk and detail and gives a nice introduction to Jason Schwartzman’s character in Darjeeling Limited. At first glance, there seem to be a lot of similarities to Luke Wilson’s character in The Royal Tenenbaums (my favorite of Anderson’s movies). I can’t wait to see the movie.

Clearview

The New York Times Magazine has an article about Clearview, a new typeface that is on track to replace Highway Gothic on road signs across the country. I, for one, welcome this change. My somewhat compromised night vision makes some signs nearly impossible to read at night. If the tests are any indication, this should be a real improvement.

Also, kudos to the Times Magazine for printing an article filled with such typographic nerdery.

This is Harry the spider. He’s been a resident of my patio for a few weeks now. This is just a quick snap I took one evening with my iPhone. I was surprised that it turned out well. This is definitely leaps and bounds better than the previous phone camera’s I’ve used.

Some jackass has decided to send a large number of messages from fake addresses at my domain using an open relay at prod-infinitum.com.mx. It is my firm belief that spammers deserve to be tortured in ways inconceivable by the CIA or even the Spanish Inquisition.

To the person responsible for this: I hope you live a long life of unspeakable pain. Death is too good for you.

I’ve made fun of Channel 11 in the past for their terrible grammar and comma predilection. Even though this story would be perfect material there are even better targets. No less than four uses of “lightening”. Poor “lightning” only gets one.

Update: Three of the four have been corrected. I wonder if they’ll catch the fourth.
